OurPlace started as a private blog our founder created to stay connected with his closest friends. It grew the same way real communities grow: over time, with care. Features were added, adjusted, and sometimes removed—but the goal stayed the same: protect the space and make it better for the people in it.

Today, OurPlace is still built with that mindset. We’re a self-funded company with no venture capitalists pushing us to chase explosive growth or constant redesigns. Why does it cost money?

The big social media sites are free to use because they analyze your every move, use what they learn to keep you addicted, and sell everything about you to advertisers, data brokers, and even governments.

We do none of this because we hate being manipulated and exploited! Unfortunately, we still have the costs of servers, bandwidth, and storing your images and posts, but we work hard to keep our prices as low as possible.

Will my blog's readers have to pay?

Everyone you invite to your blog can read and post there for free.

What happens to my blog if I cancel my subscription?

Your blog will be put into read-only mode for a year, to give you time to download it in the file formats of your choice. You may also delete it at any time.

Will you still be in business years from now?

OurPlace is a self-funded, family-owned company with no venture capitalists urging us to go big or go bust. Also, we are in it for the long haul because our founder and his friends have twenty-four years, and counting, of their own discussions and memories here.
