About Us

Our Story

Many years ago, our founder created a private blog to share his thoughts and feelings with his closest friends. And so, in their own little nook of the internet, a close-knit community was born.

Over the years David added features. Some worked, some didn’t, but maintaining and improving their community was always his most important goal.

Now we are proud to give you OurPlace: a site where everyone can have what David and his friends have enjoyed for over twenty years.

Our Company

OurPlace is a self-funded company, with no venture capitalists urging us to go big or go bust. We want you to feel safe creating your community with us, knowing that we are in it for the long haul. After all, David and his friends have twenty-four years, and counting, of their own discussions and memories here.

We will ensure OurPlace remains itself--no massive feature changes or confusing redesigns--and stays accessible for many years to come.

Founder & Software Developer

David Enderson

David's passion for programming began in fourth grade with an old Commodore PET. It only had a cassette tape drive and 4kb of RAM, but David was hooked. After graduating in 2001, he spent fourteen years working as a full stack web developer, team manager, and Android app developer.

During 2013 he began having less energy and more fatigue and brain fog. His symptoms worsened severely as the doctors failed to find answers. Finally in December 2015, unable to work and spending his waking hours exhausted in bed, David's wife drove him to Mayo Clinic. He was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and later with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. These debilitating conditions have no cure, and medicine did little to help.

As the years passed, David found solace with his friends, many of whom were members of the private blog he started in 2001. That small community provided both moral support and thoughtful debates on a wide variety of issues. David decided to use his few good hours a week to begin building this site so everyone can have that same feeling of community with their friends.

David lives in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA, with his loving wife and five affectionate cats. When he has the energy, David loves playing board games, computer games, and reading speculative fiction.
